 HISTORY OF GLAZIER PACKING COMPANY

Glazier Packing Co. Inc. was incorporated in 1923 but had its earliest beginnings in 1903.  Howard A. Glazier started a meat and grocery store in Owls Head, deep in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York State.  In the summer months, his son Albon would make deliveries from the store into the resort areas of Indian Lake, and Mountain View.

In 1918 Albon moved to Malone, NY and opened his own store on Main Street.  In 1923, Albon bought an old cheese plant on Water Street (now College Ave.), hired a German sausage maker, and started manufacturing sausage, hams, and bacon.  The business flourished and expanded into a full fresh meat distribution house.

Everest Glazier followed his father Albon into the family business, managing it until his retirement in 1971.  His sons Howard, Ronald, John, and daughter Mary Lee continued expanding the business by buying the McCarthy, Deno and Coultry Meat Company in 1973.

A second expansion was made in 1991 by purchasing the Pahler Packing Corp of Potsdam NY, a slaughter plant and meat distribution center.  The slaughter house operated for three years, then the operation was closed down to make room for the consolidation of the sausage operation from Malone.

Joining the Pocahontas Food Group in 1997, Glazier Packing Company expanded further into a full food service food distributor.  The product lines include meat, poultry, frozen foods, fresh vegetables, grocery, dairy, paper products, chemicals, seafood and spices.  The company services grocery stores, chain stores, delis, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, convenience stores, restaurants, and government agencies throughout the North Country of New York State and part of Vermont.

The company bought one of the Tru-stitch plants in Malone to accommodate their growth in the industry.  The building sits on a 3 acre parcel with 29,000 sq. feet of space located across from the Malone Airport on Rt. 11 and has enough space for future expansion.

The Company has grown from a small grocery store into a sausage manufacturer and full line food service distributor with over 52 employees.  With the Company’s two operations, the manufacturing in Potsdam, NY and the  Food Service Distribution in Malone, NY, we have been able to service our customer base more efficient and also provide many more food and dry good products with 100 mile radius.

The Glazier Family is proud of the family tradition handed down from previous generations and will continue to grow and thrive with the support of two great communities.
